Vascular Surgery

Many patients requiring arterial surgery also may have cerebrovascular and respiratory disease, which should be thoroughly assessed pre-op. This may require medical consultation.

Preoperatively ALL should have

Pulmonary Function Tests and ABG may also be necessary. MUGA scan/ ECHO and CT abdomen for aortic aneurysm surgery.

Arteriograms have to be arranged in advance of operations.

Arteriograms and Doppler study results must be available for theater

Blood should be cross-matched and available, see blood ordering schedule 11.13

Prophylactic-antibiotics are given at induction, see 11.12

Heparin/anticoagulation as indicated on postoperative instructions in the notes. DVT prophylaxis is used routinely 11.10.
