Varicose veins

  1. History and examination

  2. Duplex scan of superficial and deep venous system.

  3. If patient is due for a short saphenous ligation, the sapheno-popliteal junction must be marked on the morning of surgery using Duplex (in Non Invasive Vascular Lab)

  4. ECG and CXR only if indicated

  5. FBC if $>$ 40 years old, U&E if indicated (e.g. on diuretics), no need for COAG unless indicated

  6. Mark veins the morning of operation

  7. Informed consent, see 11.1.1

  8. Post-operatively, check peripheral circulation and neurological function prior to discharge
