Renal replacement therapy

The main options for renal replacement therapy are dialysis or transplantation.

Dialysis
- Haemo dialysis
  - Veno-venous filtration
  - AV fistula
- Peritoneal dialysis
  - Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD)
  - Continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis (CCPD)
Transplantation

In germany [RFPH02] 70% of patients in ESRF are on haemodialysis. 25% of patients have a kidney transplant and the remaining 5% on on peritoneal dialysis. (98.4%) of those on haemodialysis receive it in a clinic and 1.6% are on haemodialysis at home. Compared to Spain, Austria and USA the german transplantation rate is low, see figure 6.
