Problems in people on long term dialysis

These debilitating complications of uremia or long term dialysis have implications in the medical decision to choose transplantation. They may occur even in well-rehabilitated and compliant patients.

Bones - Renal ostodsytrophy
Amyloidosis - Amyloidosis
Cysts - Acquired cystic disease

Other problems include, uremic cardiomyopathy, accelerated atherosclerosis, peripheral neuropathy with muscle atrophy, dialysis ascitis and dialysis encephalopathy or aluminum related dialysis dementia. Many of these disorders may improve after successful transplantation.
