Leucocyte selectin, also known as CD62L, LAM-1, LECAM-1, Mel-14 antigen, gp90mel and Leu8/TQ-1 antigen.
It is constitutively expressed on most leucocytes. Following capture of leucocytes on the endothelium L-Selectin is rapidly shed from the leucocyte on stimulation with LTB4, C5a, TNF-, IL-1 and PAF.
L-selectin can use both P and E-selectins on the endothelium as ligands. Down regulation of L-selectin occurs within minutes as the result of L-Selectin shedding from the leucocyte.
