Orientation

This shows a plain abdominal film (PFA). The top of the image is towards the patients head. The left of the image corresponds to the patients right hand side.

Description

There is evidence of recent surgery, with skin staples down the middle of the abdomen. there is a safety pin seen in the right iliac fossa connected to an opacity that appears to be a drain

The intestines are somewhat gassy as would be usual for someone with a postoperative ileus.

Contrast this image with that seen preoperatively. Note the increased gas in the intestine and the absence of the unusual rounded density.
