The team looking after the potential donor, contact the transplantation coordinator, usually the renal transplantation coordinator, who ascertains the patients clinical history and status. The coordinator then discusses the potential donor with the consultant transplant surgeons on call to ensure that they agree that the potential donor may be suitable. The patient will be discussed in the first instance with the renal and liver transplant consultants and following that with other transplantation services, eg. heart, lung.
The transplantation coordinator then contacts the team looking after the potential donor to inform them if the patient is appears suitable for donation based on the information supplied so far.
