Antigen presenting cells
These are cells, such as monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells of lymphoid
organs, renal mesangial cells, Kupffer's cells, and alveolar type 2 lining
cells, and certain other cells of the immune system such as lymphocytes and
thymic epithelial cells, that perform the function of expressing foreign
antigens on their surface, bound to the cells own MHC molecules. The self antigens
that are involved belong to class 2 of the major histocompatibility complex.
