After 1902, Alexis Carrel and Emerick Ullmann performed en-bloc transplants
with aorta and IVC with kidneys and ureters in cats. [Car02] This
perfected the technique of vascular anastamosis, but the organs soon failed,
although this did not seem to be due to infarction or infection. The loss was
due to a new process of destruction.
