Then Calne went to the United States to the Peter Bent Bringham hospital in Boston to work with Joseph Murray , (see 2.2.19)and to get some more drugs from Dr George Hitchings at Burrows-Wellcome.
Following his returnn to the United Kingdom Roy Calne was appointed Professor of Surgery at the University of Cambridge. He set up a liver transplantation program there.
His labarotory discovered the importance of cycylosporine.
He was subsequently knighted.
