Compliance with immunosuppressant therapy

When Sir Austin Bradford Hill, invented the randomised controlled trial, he evaluated the effects of drugs in the treatment of tuberculosis. An amusing anecdote told is that one of his patients in the review clinic asked why his medications had been changed?

Patient Doctor why have you changed my medicine?
Doctor How do you know that they were changed?
Patient Well last week when I threw them down the toilet they sank
and this week they floated ....

Compliance is a problem with the immuno-suppresant medications due to their side-effects. If the side effects can be minismised then compliance should improve and less grafts would be lost.
