The fore-gut

This corresponds to that part of the gut supplied by the coeliac axis. This extends to half way down the second part of the duodenum. The duodenum in the upper half of the second part is supplied by the superior pancreatico-duodenal artery which is a branch of the gastro-duodenal artery, while the lower half of the second part of the duodenum is supplied by the inferior pancreatico-duodenal artery which is a branch of the superior mesenteric artery.

Fore-gut pain is felt in the epigastrium.
