Hunter, John (1728-1793)

Born 1728.

Worked in St George's hospital in London.

Reputed to have ligated a popliteal artery aneurysm in a coachman.

Reputed to have inoculated himself with gonorrhea and syphilis via a scalpel blade.

Hunter's canal
Another name for the sub sartorial canal through which the superficial femoral artery travels from the femoral triangle to the popliteal fossa. The artery leaves the sub sartorial canal to enter the popliteal fossa by piercing the adductor magnus through the adductor hiatus.
