Pathway to surgery

The path to elective surgery may be varied; in essence it goes through the following steps;

• Clinical history as indication for assessment
• Clinical examination
• Scope and biopsy
• ? need for contrast study ? virtual colonoscopy
• ? proceed to resection if biopsy not availible or negative
• If rectal cancer, local staging with MRI / Endoluminal US
• Liver Work up
• Baseline CEA
