Variations on the theme

There are many variations, one example is the nephron-dosing transplant where both donor kidneys are transplanted into the same recipient. This is done when it is felt that the donor kidneys are a bit small or that they have some mild deterioration in function. For example if the donor is older, female and had a history of hypertension and was on inotrophs at the time of harvest then a younger recipient may be best served by having both donor kidneys inserted. This would usually be done with one donor kidney inserted in the left iliac fossa and the other on the right.
