The pill, HRT

The oral contraceptive pill and Hormone replacement therapy have pro-coagulant effects, increasing the risk of thrombo-embolic complications. If possible the pill should be discontinued at least six weeks prior to elective surgery.

Most surgeons advise that patients on HRT should similarly discontinue it six weeks prior to surgery.
