Immunoprophylaxis in elective splenectomy

• Vaccines (2 weeks post op)
  • Haemophilus Influenza B vaccine
  • Meningococcal A, C
  • Pneumococcal
  • Influenza

• Preop penicillin

• Postop penicillin for life - phenoxymethylpenicillin calcium 666 millegrammes bd

• Measure antibody titres every 5 years and consider re-immunisation
