IV Fluid Orders

A patient may be written for a standard regime for 12-24 hours, but patients' requirements may change within this period.

Standard 70 kg man requires

Changes in urine output, pulse rate, and BP are useful indicators of changes in fluid requirements. Ensure that these observations are recorded regularly postoperatively and, most importantly, that you are informed of any changes.

DO NOT give diuretics to patient post op unless they are in gross pulmonary oedema without discussion with senior team member.

MOST PATIENTS WITH LOW URINARY OUTPUT POSTOP REQUIRE MORE FLUIDS AND NOT DIURETICS
