- A decision will be made pre-operatively on whether a tumour should be treated
by mastectomy or breast conserving surgery
- All patients with breast carcinoma must be discussed at the tumour board
meeting and details of the consensus on treatment documented in patients'
medical records.
- Mark ALL breast lumps clearly pre-operatively
- Histology / cytology results MUST be included in the chart
- Arrangements need to be made with Radiology Department if patient is
undergoing lymph node mapping or wire localization
- All women undergoing breast conserving surgery will require
post-operative radiotherapy
- Women who have had an axillary clearance should receive physiotherapy
to-restore shoulder movement day one post-operatively
