Orientation

The image shows the porta hepatis. The top of the image corresponds to the patients front. The right part of the image corresponds to the midline. The left part of the image corresponds to the patients left hand side.

Description

This image shows a laparoscopic view of the porta hepatis. The patient is post laparoscopic cholecystectomy as can be seen from the presence of numerous clips. The presence of sloughy material around the clips and on the liver above indicates that there has been inflammation in the area prior to this laparoscopy. Some debris from the inflammation is seen over some of the clips indicating that the clips were not applied at the time that this image was taken.

In the center of the picture there is a hole with protruding mucosa. Bile stained material is seen issueing from the hole.
